Hope was found by our transporter when she was saving a few others from a kill lot in Texas. Hope was to be loaded that day for slaughter and we got a message asking if we could save this potentially pregnant mare. We had two others coming to us as well but as most of our supporters know we rarely say no.
So we took Hope in and she became our first rescue to land at the stables. She was scared, anxious and full of body wounds. After a few months of settling in and realizing all we wanted is for her to feel safe, she settled in. Next was a visit from our vet. The poor girl needed sedation and had an ultrasound to verify if she was pregnant.
Luckily she was not, she is just a very stoutly built pony who needed a bit of exercise. With this, her new diet and exercise training plan began. While she can be a bit stubborn and lazy, this little one leads extremely well and can be saddled easily.
Grooming has been a breeze and training is now going smoothly.
She does well on her own with a small pasture buddy but is picky on her pasture mates. Likewise she needs to trust her rider and trainer. We will not adopt Hope to a lesson program as she is not a good fit. She would require an intermediate rider to get her going. While she can be "mare-ish" she is a complete sweetheart and will follow you like a puppy once you've earned her trust. Understanding she needs this time would be imperative with her new family.
The home we would love for Hope would be a small family farm or barn. When she first came to us she had severe anxiety of being in a stall. At our rescue she has 24 turn out availability from her stall and would be best if she could continue this lifestyle.
Hope has quickly become a rescue favorite as we have watched her blossom from a scared pony to a confident and sometimes even sassy girl.
As of now Hope may stay with us indefinitely unless the right home is found for her.
